Platform Bed Frames
Our platform bed frames are handcrafted from solid American hardwoods. Thoughtfully designed and constructed to last for generations, our beds are finished simply with a hand-rubbed clear coat of linseed oil to reveal the natural beauty of the wood grain. When you buy our beds, you can rest assured that you're not bringing questionable wood or dangerous chemicals into your home, because our wood is solid, new, furniture-grade lumber, our glue is low-VOC and our finish is 0% VOC. Many of our customers have chemical sensitivities, and many people purchase our bed frames for use with organic mattresses. With everything we build, we think about safety, ease of use, practicality and durability of our pieces for generations of use.
Designed for easy home assembly, our beds are easily put together (and taken apart, should you move) with interlocking metal bed hardware. The side rails have spacing blocks attached, and 8 - 11 slats get placed across the bed to create your platform. We can ship you our kiln-dried poplar slats or you can save some money and get 2x6s at your local hardware store- we will tell you what you need. King and California king beds have a poplar center support with leg; while not standard, one can be added on the queen. Wood samples, photos of beds in a specific wood, and sample assembly instructions are available upon request.
Shipping is included in our pricing. We use FedEx Ground with appointment, curbside residential FedEx Freight with liftgate + appointment, or courier (set-up available at an additional cost.)
Our two basic styles of platform bed frame are the Simple Frame and the Slim Jim. Price depends on bed size and choice of wood. Ambrosia maple, curly maple and regular cherry are generally less expensive, while white oak, curly cherry and walnut are more, with curly walnut and quarter-sawn white oak at the top. Lumber availability, prices and lead time all fluctuate. Our Etsy shop will give you an estimate of lead time and pricing (about 5% less to buy from us directly.) Each bed is custom built to order. The measurements shown below can be adjusted; we often raise or lower the beds to suit different customer needs. Just get in touch for help. We require a 50% non-refundable deposit to get into our queue.

This traditional bed design with wide rails and sturdy straight legs is simple enough to work well in any bedroom. The bed pieces are finely sanded and the edges are rounded over to make them feel nice and smooth.

This bed was designed for a customer (James) living in a very small NYC apartment, with a need to maximize his under-bed storage space. The rails on this "Slim Jim" bed are narrower than our traditional bed style and the platform sits flush with the top of the frame. Still strong and sturdy, this bed is simple enough to work well in any bedroom. The bed pieces are finely sanded and the edges are rounded over to make them feel nice and smooth.
